Silk Immersion Experience– A special event for Sacramento ASG Chapter.

This special silk event consists of a two part lecture/demonstration featuring hands-on samples and silk processing demonstrations.

We begin our silk journey by learning about the ancient art of sericulture (producing silk). The creation of silk textiles – from caterpillar to cloth – is a fascinating journey. Learn how silk is transformed from simple “bug spit” into shimmering elegance. Silk specialist Katrina Walk-er will guide you through the process of growing and processing silk in this interactive lecture/demo. Touch silk in various stages of processing, from cocoon to raw silk ready to weave or spin. Watch videos taken by Katrina at silk factories and silk study centers in Japan. Watch and learn how to reel your own silk from cocoons and even how silk “hankies” are made using whole cocoons and a frame. You will be amazed at how much you will learn about this truly wonder fiber.

We will break for lunch featuring the Tuscany Buffet:

Penne Primavera with zucchini, squash, cherry tomatoes, onions and mushrooms with a rich garlic white wine cream sauce

After lunch, we will learn tips, tricks, and techniques for working with all kinds of silk fabrics. Katrina will share her favorite seam and hem treatments for creating beautiful silk garments, as well as provide a trunk show of some of her creations both garment and piecework related. You will gain new confidence and be inspired to sew with silk after this inspiring presentation.
