Designer Showcase 2026

Entry Forms Due September 15, 2026

 

You’re invited to participate in our Designer Showcase at our Annual Meeting on October 10, 2026.
Participating is fun! No previous experience necessary. We want to see it all – “everyday” fashion, athleisure wear, Cosplay, special occasion, children’s wear, adaptive garments, vintage, cultural, quilts, bags, hats – the only limit is your imagination and your sewing machine.

RULES FOR ENTRIES
• Limit of two (2) items. Use one submission form for each item submitted.
• Complete a written commentary of 100 to 150 words.
• Submittal deadline is September 15, 2026.

NO EXCEPTIONS TO THE DEADLINE. To assist us in show production, please submit your entry as soon as possible. Your item need not be completed to submit the entry form, but all supporting details must be received by the deadline date. Preferred method of entry submittal is online by selecting  Fill Out Entry Form.  You may want to type up your commentary before pasting into the commentary section.

You may instead download a copy of the entry form and send to Phyllis by September 15, 2026. Designer Showcase Application Form 2026 Here and save as fillable-PDF or print to fill out manually.

You will receive an email confirmation of submitting your form. If you do not receive confirmation within a week, contact Phyllis. Only confirmed entries will be included in the show, so please verify that you receive your confirmation.

Meet the Legends - Marilyn Stanley

Marilyn has an MS in Home Economics and has taught in the adult education program of the San Juan Unified School District before teaching garments sewing and serger classes at Meissner's Sewing Center where she started in 1989. She also taught in the Fashion Programs at American River and Sacramento City Colleges. Marilyn's lengthy sewing education career has touched the sewing lives of many of us over the years. Her high standards skill and level of expertise are exemplary. She is a REAL SACRAMENTO LEGEND!

Please join us where Marilyn will be demonstrating how to sew a hand-worked buttonhole and a feather hem stitch. Supplies will be provided. 
You must register separately for Marilyn's Demonstration. It will be held in the same classroom as the Sit-n-Sew and there are a limited number of seats available.

Sit & Sew at Meissners' Sacramento

Meissner's two classrooms will be open after Maryilyn Stanley's presentation for anyone who wants to sit and sew for four hours. Bring a lunch, snack, drink and spend time focused working on a project. Make sure to bring whatever you need - tools/equipment to work with and of course, your sewing machine, cords, sewing box, etc.

Meet Another Legend - Sandra Betzina

Sandra will be sharing the highlights of her interesting and varied career with us. Sandra has been teaching for more than 50 years, published many books and online videos as well as designed patterns for Vogue called Today’s Fit. She has taught all over the U.S., Canada and Australia. She is sure to have some interesting information for us! Zoom link to be sent out the week of the meeting.

Gail Russell, newly retired Fashion Professor from American River College, will be our speaker.

Gail taught courses in: History of Western World Fashion, Pattern Making, and Costume Construction.
With more than 40 years of experience as a freelance costume designer, Gail also serves as an associate artist at Capital Stage Company.

Gail’s Presentation: The History of Fashion.
Gail will take us on a fascinating journey through the History of Fashion, accompanied by a lecture and slide presentation.

Lorraine Henry, Seam Alteration Method

Learn the "Seam Alteration Method" of altering patterns with Lorraine Henry in a full day workshop:
Lorraine Henry will be joining us again for a longer, large group workshop, teaching us how to do the “Seam Alteration” method taught at many colleges around the U.S., through the book, Fitting & Pattern Alteration, by E. Liechty, J. Rasband and D. Pottberberg-Steineckert. Many of us had a short introduction to the method during our Spring Luncheon. Come and spend all day with hands-on teaching and practicing with half-scale patterns.



With a B.S degree in Clothing and Textiles Lorraine has been a university instructor and has taught classes nationally and internationally at sewing related shows. Teaching newest method of pattern alteration and fit is her favorite thing to do. She is the creator of the Two Easy Measuring tape set with an instruction booklet which has been an aid for achieving a good fit for fashion sewers throughout the world. She has also written articles on pattern alteration for Sew News Magazine. With 40+ years of experience as a custom dressmaker/tailor and teacher, she has a wealth of knowledge to share with you about sewing and fit.

Two-Day Pants Alterations Workshop

November 3 & 4, 2026

Lorraine will also be teaching a two-day workshop on pants alterations on 11/3 & 4 – limited to six participants. The cost per student is $250.00. There will be a pattern available for purchase at the class. Location t.b.d., from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Intermediate sewing skills preferable. Lorraine will be teaching a two-day workshop on bodice alterations on 11/5 & 6 – limited to eight participants. The cost per student is $250.00. Sewing Retreat at Lake Tahoe

Sunday - Friday -- May 23-28, 2027

Come enjoy a week of sewing at the Zephyr Point Conference Center on the shores of Lake Tahoe. Experience the pleasures of collaborating with other sewists while viewing Lake Tahoe at its finest. Sewing stations, meals, and sleeping accommodations are provided. Bring your sewing projects, sewing machine(s), and your inspirations for a fun week of no cooking, no cleaning, no time limits, and no obligations. Simply enjoy good old-fashioned sewing FUN.

2027 Sewing Retreat at Lake Tahoe Registration Form

Registration dates, rates, down payments and balance due deadlines:
Priority registration for Sacramento ASG members is October 1, 2026 – October 31, 2026. Open registration will begin on November 1, 2026. A wait list will be established when the event fills. Due to contract obligations with Zephyr Point Conference Center, registration rates increase on February 1, 2027. A $355 check down payment secures your registration. Please note: You may pay the final balance by mailed check or by credit card on the ASG Sacramento website. Either payment method must be received NO LATER than midnight February 1,2027. Credit card final payments will incur an $11 fee. A registration may be cancelled and refunded if not paid in full by the due date.

Cancellation and wait list procedures:
Should a cancellation occur, wait list procedures will be as follows: First Listed – First Offered. Sewists who are not on the wait list will not receive an offer until after the wait list has been exhausted. To be placed on the wait list, please send an email to retreat@asgsacramento.org. Also, due to contract obligations: NO REFUNDS AFTER February 1, 2027 unless a wait listed sewist replaces the space.
