She will be teaching us how to substitute one kind of sleeve in a garment to another style, in addition to sharing the trajectory of her career.

ASG Sacramento Chapter Fitting Divas will be hosting Fit With A Pro. 
Members can bring their in-progress garment to receive approximately 30 minutes of fitting assistance during June Fit and Sew.

Ivy Vining, a professional Fashion Design Instructor with specialties in pattern making and garment fitting, will be attending to give personalized fitting sessions to interested members. Registered members will have the opportunity to have their personal garment fitted on them by Ivy. Individualized fitting sessions will also be performed as group demonstrations, allowing other members to observe for further learning potential.

Benefit: Registered members will have the opportunity to receive personalized fitting instruction relative to their own project and body type. Members will also benefit from the communal aspect of observing fit on a variety of body types. Members will gain knowledge on proper garment fitting standards and how to apply them to their own work moving forward.


Bring sewing machines and basic sewing supplies if you want to work on your garment.

Wool Braiding Part 1 with Susie Webb

Come learn how to braid with wool! Once you learn the basics of braiding you can braid a bowl, a bag, rug, placemat, chair pad, the possibilities are endless!

Students will learn each step of the process, from attaching the three strands, then braiding and ending your braid into a trivet.

What will be provided:

  • Wool
  • Tapestry needle
  • splicing thread
  • clothes pin
  • handouts

What you should bring:

  • Scissors
  • Narrow hemostat or narrow needle nose pliers
  • Hand sewing needle
  • Neutral color thread
  • Two safety pins
  • Short straight pins, 3/4” to 1” in length
  • A 5 pound weight such as a barbell or a can
Register by July 13, 2026, 6 PM.
Priority registration is given to ASG members. A member may signup another member guest. Registrations are non-transferable. Waitlisted members will be given registration priority before non-member guest registration opens. Non-member registration will open two weeks prior to day of workshop. Non-member fee will be $40.

Two-day in-person workshop: Material Matrix
July 20 & 21, 2026
10am - 4pm

Steve Cook’s Fireside Lanes

This is a 2-day workshop in which you will be learning Sandra's technique, “Material Matrix”. All participants will work on the project, “Wake Up Cup”, which will give you a good understanding of the technique.

Also included in the workshop are:
-  tips on gridding your own photo,
- understanding the importance of value, - composition and color,
- and how to make a matched binding.

This workshop will help you “see” in a whole new way and sharpen your piecing skills. If you enjoy piecing you will definitely enjoy this technique.

Ice Dyeing a Silk Scarf with Sheryl Thompson

Learn dye chemistry then dye a silk scarf for yourself!

Ice dyeing gives vivid and complex color patterns with little or no fuss. Unlike many of the creative things we do, there is no need to analyze color harmonies, placement or balance of your design when you use ice to carry the dyes to the fabric. In this class you will learn about dye chemistry, which dyes are the easiest to use and how to safely handle them. Attendees will dye a scarf to produce beautiful one of a kind accessory for your wardrobe.

What to bring:

  1. rubber gloves
  2. glass baking dish or plastic tub
  3. small cooking cooling rack
  4. wear old clothes
