Member advertising is free for sewing related items up to five lines. Members also receive, the National ASG magazine “Notions”. This magazine is published quarterly. The popular “Threads” magazine can be purchase with a group order for a considerable savings.
Members have the opportunity to be an active participant in the National ASG charity project in addition to having the opportunity to support local charities through neighborhood group projects. A workshop is held once a month to make tote bags for Mary House (part of Loaves and Fishes). Fabric is provided or members can bring their own. Each neighborhood group can choose their own charity to support. Philanthropy is a large part what the ASG stands for. The National ASG also recognizes the generosity of many of the members who work on projects outside the neighborhood groups and National projects.
Members have access to a variety of sewing related library books and hands on tips and techniques. Each neighborhood group has a library based on the genre of the group. Members are not limited to any specific genre. Members can request and check out any book in the Chapter library. Neighborhood groups usually have an educational presentation or demo based on the experience and / or requests from that group. National ASG website regularly invites all members to a free live on-line webinar. Members can chat and/or ask questions with the speaker. The webinars are recorded and posted to the National ASG site for members who weren’t able to be there live or to see it again.
Many local and internet sites will honor the ASG membership and give a discount on purchases. Discounts vary and may change without notice. A few local and website shops that offer discounts are as follows: Meissner’s Sewing and Learning Center, Hi Fashion Fabrics, Nancy’s Notions, Indygo Junction and many more. See our retailers section on this website.
Show and Share
Get inspiration and motivation by seeing what other members are sewing. Members bring their finished items to the neighborhood group meetings to show and share with other sewists. Members learn about the fabric and material used, where to find the pattern and the challenges encountered. Members get great gift giving ideas from Show and Share sessions.
Contests, Awards and Ribbons
Local ASG chapters and National ASG will challenge members to think outside the box and expand their sewing knowledge/skills. Each year National ASG will have specific criteria for a national member challenge. Semi finalist will be posted to their internet site and members nationwide will vote for the winner. The Sacramento chapter also has a yearly challenge with specific criteria. Members attending our annual meeting will cast their votes for the winners who will be recognized at the meeting and presented an award/ribbon.
