Sewing Challenge
Art Forgery

Your sewing challenge should you decide to accept is to don a beret and become an art forger for one day.  Mission impossible?  Of course not!


First you will need a disguise.
Second you need to practice.
Third complete the mission.

The Challenge

Participants will be introduced to sewing with water soluble stabilizer, cotton scrap pieces, and free form presser foot to create a work of art.

The Reward

The student will learn how use WSS, use a free form presser foot and how to set their machine for it, color coordination, and another use of scrap fabric.

Designer Showcase 2025


You’re invited to participate in our Designer Showcase at our
Annual Meeting on October 11, 2025.


Participating is fun! No previous experience necessary. We want to see it all – “everyday” fashion, athleisure wear, Cosplay, special occasion, children’s wear, adaptive garments, vintage, cultural, quilts, bags, hats – the only limit is your imagination and your sewing machine.

• Limit of two (2) items. Use one submission form for each item submitted.

Ivy Vining, a professional Fashion Design Instructor with specialties in pattern making and garment fitting, will be attending to give personalized fitting sessions to interested members. Registered members will have the opportunity to have their personal garment fitted on them by Ivy. Individualized fitting sessions will also be performed as group demonstrations, allowing other members to observe for further learning potential.

Benefit: Registered members will have the opportunity to receive personalized fitting instruction relative to their own project and body type. Members will also benefit from the communal aspect of observing fit on a variety of body types. Members will gain knowledge on proper garment fitting standards and how to apply them to their own work moving forward.

Bring sewing machines and basic sewing supplies if you want to work on your garment.

Join Kathy for Part 2 Machine Embroidery.  In this class you will focus on techniques not used in the previous class. You will learn how to Appliqué in the hoop.  You will also learn about using a cutting machines such as Circuit or Silhouette Cameo for use with appliqués.

Are you intimidated by the embroidery functions of your embroidery sewing machine?  Come learn about the basics—stabilizers, fabric, needles, thread, etc.  You will make an in the hoop project by the end of class!

This is an introduction to Machine Embroidery and the tools and supplies needed.  The class will begin with lecture focusing on basics of ME—thread, stabilizer, needles, formats used by different brands, specialty scissors, etc.  Hooping techniques will be demonstrated and participants will learn about stabilizers for in hoop in preparation of stitch-out.  Participants will make a zipper pouch project using a free design from ME Time.

Upcycled T-Shirt Kimono Jacket

Design and construct your own kimono inspired jacket using upcycled t-shirts and jersey knit fabrics. Students will bring their own jersey knit t-shirts to deconstruct and lay out patterns to create their own one-of-kind garment. 

Students will use other knit fabrics to make contrasting sleeves and front binding. Students will learn to mix and match colors, solids and patterns fabrics to create their own unique patchwork designed BoHo inspired kimono jacket.

The Winter Social is the perfect place for members to meet. Members are the heart of ASG, and each month our chapter welcomes new members. Let’s take some time to connect with fellow chapter members—both new and long-term—and share our love of sewing. Learn about our varied neighborhood groups and meet some of the Chapter Board Members.

We also have an exciting program planned for the day! Please bring a pair of scissors and 3-4 pieces of woven fabric (about the size of a fat- quarter) to share for the appliqué project. All other materials will be provided.

Tea and refreshments will be served.
The event is free.
