Cost:  $30 (thanks to chapter sponsorship!)

Registration is open to only Sacramento Chapter members until June 6th.  Registration will open to all ASG members and guests on June 6th.  Fee will be $60.
The event fee includes:
  • Transportation on a luxury coach (with a restroom)
  • Admission to Quilt Show Reno
  • Morning refreshments during the ride to Reno
  • Refreshments during the ride home
  • Games and prizes on the bus

Hop on the bus—we’re heading to Reno  for a sewist’s day out!  Our destinations include Quilt Show Reno and Mill End Fabrics.

We’ll be attending the 23 rd  annual Quilt Show Reno.  The event is known to feature local and national quilt artists as well as a large vendor mall. There are daily prize drawings and a chance to win Grand Prizes every day. The event is held at the Grand Sierra Resort & Casino.

We’ll also visit Mill End Fabrics.  A family-owned shop for over 50 years, Mill Ends is one of the largest fabric shops in the western US.

Enjoy touring the quilt show and vendor mall then treat yourself to lunch at the casino.  Mill End Fabrics is less than 2 miles away and will be our second stop.   We’ll have plenty of time to shop before heading back down the hill to home.

Registration is required by June 12.  Cancellations will be accepted until June 6, 2026. After this date refund request will not be accepted. Issued refunds will be less a $3 transaction fee.

Physical considerations: This event is expected to involve moderate walking- throughout the quilt show floor, vendor mall, lunch area and at Mill End Fabrics.  The day will likely involve a significant amount of standing with very limited seating available.  Stepping up in/out of the bus is necessary.

ASG Spring Luncheon - Lorraine Henry

May 30, 2026

9:00 am - 2:00 pm

At the Spring Event, during the morning session, Lorraine will explain and demonstrate her methods of taking body measurements, which are essential to determining and making accurate pattern alterations. We will learn to identify body markers for measurements, the correct order for taking measurements, and to recognize common errors in the process. The order of measurement taking is key to correct pattern alterations and pattern fit. There will be no more guesswork in taking body measurements after Lorraine’s presentation.

After lunch Lorraine will introduce us the seam method of pattern alteration, developed by Judith Rasband, Elizabeth Leichty and Della Pottberg-Steineckert, authors of Fitting and Pattern Alteration. The seam method of pattern alteration alters patterns along the seam lines only and preserves the original grainline. There is no cutting into the body of the pattern to make an alteration.

The seam method of pattern alteration is taught in fashion/sewing programs throughout the country. We will have hands on practice learning this method, making a few common alterations with half scale patterns. There is a short supply list for the afternoon lecture.

PANTS WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Over the course of two days the participants will take measurements necessary for well-fitting pants, identify the areas for adjustment, learn the seam method to make those alterations, and alter their patterns accordingly. Then, participants will make a muslin and then tweak it for a perfect fit. There is a supply list for these workshops and homework that will need to be completed before the workshop begins.

There will be TWO, 2-Day Workshops. Both workshops will contain the same material. The first workshop will be May 31 - June 1, 2026. The 2nd workshop will be June 2-3, 2026

Both workshops will start at 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, both days with a break for lunch.

Spring is the time to organize and create wonderful a working space to feed our blooming creativity.

ASG Sacramento is offering the perfect chance to get together. An opportunity where we get to meet new members, greet friends and make a Splash Fabric tiny tub!

As we like to say, members are the heart of ASG, and each month our chapter welcomes new members, connect with fellow chapter members—both new and long-term—and share our love of sewing. Our neighborhood groups are always evolving so this is where you can hear about the new horizons of each group. Plus meet the new Chapter Board Members.

This event is free, registration is required. All materials will be provided except for scissors and metal thimbles, so you need to bring those, both will be needed.
